Lunang means “valley of the dragon king” in Tibetan. It lies 3,700 m above sea level and is nestled alongside the Sichuan Tibet Highway. It is a narrow strip of typical alpine meadow, about 1 kilometer wide and 15 km long. The mountains on its sides are called the Lunang Forest Seas, made up of bushes, dragon spruces and pines at the highter altitudes, while at the mountains’ base are alpine meadows. Streams wind through the meadows, which are strewn with winter jasmine and various other wild flowers. Wooden fences, huts and bridges all remind people that they are in a forest area. The landscape is like a brush-and-ink Chinese painting of a serene scene. In summer, the area is a sea of green waves in the breeze. In autumn and winter, the pine trees remain green while the maple trees gradually turn form green to yellow, and finally to crimson.
Tips: From the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, Lunang can be seen a clearly in the distance. The best time to see Lunang at close range is from May to Novermber.

Admission: 20 yuan
and the base of a stone tablet. Tourists can drive directly to the Eastern Burial Zone, which is bigger, with 163 ancient tombs. There are onluy a few tombs scattered in the Western Burial Zone.
As far as individual tombs are concerned, the Lieshan Ancient Tombs are no comparison to the Tibetan King’s Tombs, but they are neatly arranged and give an impression of grandeur. Moreover, they are well-preserved. Most of their profiles are still clearly discernable and this is true even of the materials used for their rammed-earth walls. Therefore, the Lieshan Ancient Tombs are by far superior to the Tibetan Kings’ Tombs in terms of exterior apperance. They are among Nyingchi Prefecture’s most culturally valuable sites.
Tips: Bayi Town of Nyingchi operates a daily sheduled bus to Nang County in the morning and afternoon, for 80 yuan. Zetang Town of Shannan operates one scheduled bus to Nang County. Tourists may choose between the two starting points.

Admission: 10 yuan
The Puqu Lama Ling Monastery is located in Puqu Township of Nyingchi County, Nyingchi Prefecture. Also called Lama Ling Monastery, it is the biggest and most influential Tibetan Buddhist Sect. It sits at the foot of a hill and faces water. The jagged shaped peaks and verdant trees in its vicinity provide a picturesque setting for the monastery. As it is in a forest area, its design is entirely different from the sturdy earth and stone structures commonly seen in other Tibetan areas. A great amount of wood from the area was used which has given the buildings a lighter, more graceful appearance. The monastery is laid out in a square-shaped pattern. Its main hall is over 20 m tall and its interior is more than 10 m in diameter. The walls have white as a background color and are decorated with blue, green and red. The building is cleverly conceived, with a distinctive style.
Its amin hall is a three-story, eight-sided pagoda-shaped pavilion, topped with a gold roof. The four corners on the rooftop each have a stone pillar inscribed with Buddhist scriptures and decorations including figures of mythic animals. In the hall on the ground floor is a gilded bronze statue of the Nyingma Sect founder, Guru Rinpoche. Its facial expression is vivid and dignified. The hall on the second floor enshrines a statue of Guan-yin with four arms and a single face. The third floor is dedicated to Amitabha (Buddha of Boundless Light).
Tips: As this monastery lies by the highway between Bayi Town and Mainling County seat, tourists may go there by bus or take a taxi at Bayi Town, for about 20 yuan one-way.
