Lhokha Prefecture is known as the birthplace of the Tibetan people. It is located south of Mt. Nyainqentanglha mountain Kailash and along the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, and enjoys a relatively mild climate. The prefecture covers an area of about 80,000 km2, with an average altitude of 3600m and a total population of 290,000, including Tibetan, Han, Hui, and Lhoba Monpa people.

The legend says that Tibetans are born of the Goddess and the sacred monkey Luocha. Is said to have taken place in the forest. Gongburi in Tsetang, and the mountain is considered sacred by Tibetans.

There are 12 counties in Lhokha Prefecture. The Prefectural Party Committee and Prefectural Government are in Tsetang City, that is the political, economic, cultural and transportation of the prefecture.
At an altitude of 3551m Tsetang is 200 km from Lhasa. The only civil airport in this area, Gonggar Airport is located halfway between Lhasa and Tsetang. The airport is named after Gonggar County, one of 12 counties Lhokha, and geographically part of Lhokha Prefecture, which is a great pride of the local population.

Tsetang has enjoyed great prestige throughout Tibetan history. The name “Tsetang” means “where monkeys play” in the Tibetan language, a reference to the story of the birth of the Tibetan people. The Prefecture, known as “the cradle of the culture of Tibet, has many other firsts in Tibet during its long history, and the airport. The first king, Niechizanpu, the first palace (Yumbulagang), agricultural land first Suodang, and the first drama were Lhokha Bagabu. Changzhu Temple was the first room to worship Buddha, the first Samye Monastery, and the first Buddhist scripture Banggongqiajia will be found in Lhokha. Three of the four sacred mountains in Lhokha: Jiasangqiuburi in Gangga, Haburi in Samye and Gongburi in Tsetang. The two sacred lakes, and Lamuño Yamdrok-tso-tso, are famous in Tibet, as a National Scenic Lhokha, the Yarlung.
Lhokha mild climate, beautiful scenery and abundant water resources make it suitable for agriculture, livestock and forestry. It has long been called “the breadbasket of Tibet.” fertile land extending to both sides of the Yarlung Tsangpo, natural extends through grazing land and Langkazi Cuomei County, and dense forests are in remote valley Nongzi County, Cuon County, County and Luoza Jiachen County.

Lhokha Prefecture covers an area between 90 014 and 27 008 “east longitude, south of the mountain Kailash and Nyainqentanglha in the middle and lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. It is bordered to the north of Lhasa, Shigates in the west, and Lingzhi in the east. bordered on the south by India and Bhutan. The total area is 73,500 km2. Lhokha The national border is about 600 km long. Lhokha is a very important strategic location and the border zone southwest China. The average altitude is above Lhokha 3600 meters. Yarlung Tsangpo, the mother river of the Tibetan people, flows through Kazi, Gonggar, Zanang, Naidong, Sanrio, and the county Jiachen Qusong of 424 km. In addition, about 41 rivers flow from the mountains flowing continuously throughout the year. In total, there are 88 lakes of different sizes, the most famous of which are Yamdrok-tso, TSO Lamunamu, and tso Zhegu Pumoyong. These lakes are like green jade jewelry set in the high mountains.

Features
Lhokha is the most prosperous in Tibet, the oldest in Tibet. The famous tube system (an historic period in the history of Tibet) was derived from the agricultural civilization in Lhokha. Lhokha also known as the origin of Tibetan civilization and has become the center of government on two occasions in Tibetan history.
Ranges, lakes, springs and river valleys are the outstanding landscapes. Yarlong Scenic Spot is the only national scenic area in Tibet. You can find different types of scenes, snowy mountains and glaciers, the farming and grazing lands, holy mountain and sacred lakes, historical relics and simple customs. All these form a mysterious and wonderful image. Yarlong is really a dazzling pearl in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
